Miley Cyrus’ smash hit ‘Flowers’ tops AirCheck’s Top 50 most played songs on Australian radio for the first half of 2023.
It was a landslide victory for ‘Flowers’ which recorded 14 non-consecutive weeks atop the AirCheck National Radio Airplay Chart, interrupted for one week by P!nk’s ‘Trustfall’. It’s officially Miley’s most commercially successful single, amassing 18,826 spins in 2023 and smashing records at radio and beyond.
Eight songs by Australian artists feature on the Top 50 chart, with an average position of 33.5. Peking Duk’s ‘I Want You’ ft. Darren Hayes was the top ranking local act at No. 9, followed by Sony Music stablemate The Kid Laroi at No. 17 with ‘Love Again’. Both songs peaked in the Top 5 on the weekly chart.
Spins for Australian artists were down by 5.04% from the same period last year as international heavyweights Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles and Post Malone continued to dominate the airwaves in 2023.
Universal Music Australia reclaimed their title as the No. 1 record label at radio with 38.48% share. The major earned three entries in the Top 10 (Taylor Swift’s ‘Anti-Hero’, Metro Boomin’s ‘Creepin’, Stephen Sanchez’s ‘Until I Found You’).
UMA increased its share by 4.30% from the same period last year, knocking Sony Music Entertainment into second place. SME secured 34.25% of the market with four Top 10 entries, while Warner Music Australia rounded out a solid start to 2023 with 22.60%.
