The Most Played Song in Australia for 2018

‘These Days’ by Rudimental featuring Jess Glynne, Macklemore and Dan Caplen was the most played song on Australian radio in 2018.

AirCheck™ released the figures today showing ‘These Days’ in the top spot with 20,815 spins. The smash hit, released on 19 January, received its first play on 19 January on Hit 101.9 FoxFM in Melbourne and since then has earned spins across 29 stations nationwide. Nova 919 spun the track the most, contributing 1,558 instances, while all five Nova stations collectively accounted for 34% all airplay. The total airplay for ‘These Days’ is the equivalent of listening to the song on repeat for 50 days straight.

Aussie boy band 5 Seconds of Summer took out second place with their smash hit ‘Youngblood’, spun 19,898 times. Another two home-grown acts earned spots in the Top 10; Dean Lewis’ ‘Be Alright at No.7 and Amy Shark’s ‘I Said Hi’ at No.9. A further 18 local tracks made it into the Top 100, including releases from Vance Joy, Conrad Sewell, Morgan Evans, Sheppard, Pnau and Sia.

Keith Williams, RCS Vice President Asia Pacific said “It is great to see three Australian acts in the Top 10 this year as there weren’t any that made the cut last year. There are a total of 21 Australian songs in the AirCheck Top 100 Most Played Songs for 2018,” he commented today.

Country/pop collaboration ‘Meant To Be’ released by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line was the third most played track of the year, slipping two places since the year’s halfway point where the track had already earned 15,136 spins.

George Ezra’s ‘Shotgun’ was the fastest mover of the year reaching No.15 after almost no spins in the first six months of the year. Released on 28 June, the track was quickly added to rotation across the nation.

The most played artist of the year was Ed Sheeran for the second year in a row securing 53,648 spins of tracks, features and remixes on the airwaves. Pink was the most played female artist not to far behind with 49,367 spins.

Universal held the greatest slice of the Top 100 record label share, securing 36%, followed by Sony (28%), Warner (25%), EMI (7%) and Independent (4%).

The most played songs of 2017 and 2016 also made appearances at No.78 (The Chainsmokers & Coldplay – ‘Something Just Like This’) and No.96 (Justin Timberlake – ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’).
